OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

At the Center for Women’s Psychotherapy, we view each woman as a unique individual whose mental health struggles comprise biological, psychological, and cultural factors. Accordingly, our treatment is holistic, considering the various aspects that contribute to client’s psychological symptoms. Our approach is grounded in six tenets that inform our interaction with each woman:

  • Across the lifespan, women face a myriad of reproductive health concerns that range from premenstrual syndrome, ovarian cancer, infertility, miscarriage, perinatal depression, to menopause. To that end, we strive to support you through the various phases of your reproductive cycles.

  • The cultural context in which we live defines how we view gender, express our gender identity, and how resources are allocated to women and men, such as pay and career opportunities. Women continue to hold less power in the workplace, at home, in politics and so forth compared to their male counterparts. At the same time, most women endure greater stress related to assuming responsibilities at home and at work. As a result, many women report experiencing stress and anxiety, wreaking havoc on their physical health, relationships, and career. Our objective is to create a space where you feel understood and empowered to make decisions that are aligned with your goals and desires, while navigating life obstacles.

  • Based on the positive effect that gender-sensitive treatment has on health outcomes for women, our care reflects an appreciation for women’s unique mental health challenges. Specifically, our women-centric psychotherapy approach addresses your reproductive health, biological disposition, psychological symptoms, emotional distress, resilience, gender biases, and cultural barriers.

  • Therapeutic collaboration is associated with positive therapy progress. To foster the most optimal outcomes for our client, we involve our client in every step of the treatment, discussing the plan of care and treatment progress based on on-going, evidence-based outcome measures. As women experience mental health differently, we collaboratively tailor the treatment to you to reach your goals.

  • Evidence-based treatments are psychological interventions that are underpinned by scientifically grounded treatment principles. Your mental health is important to us. To ensure the best possible treatment improvements for you, our treatment selections and decisions are guided by the latest research and designed to meet your needs.

  • Routine outcome monitoring refers to on-going measurements of client’s improvements in clinical practice. The goal is to evaluate and, if indicated, adapt treatment. To make sure the treatment brings intended results for you, we utilize evidence-based outcome measurement tools and elicit on-going feedback.
